General information about Scalex WILD

WILD is designed for high speed wagon wheel monitoring and weighing. The purpose is to detect harmful wheel defects (flat wheels, wheels out of roundness, etc), which could damage the track and/or wagons. Also dangerously imbalanced loads and overloads are discovered.

The detection of flat wheels at the earliest stage possible is crucial in accident prevention. A wheel with flat spots can cause the bearings to over-heat and, eventually, the axle can lock up. This can lead to serious accidents and damages to rail tracks, wagons and loads.

If the predetermined force limits are exceeded, the system will immediately sound an alarm indicating precisely which wagon(s) and particular wheel(s) are the sources of the alarm. The traffic controller can then take necessary action, either by stopping the train immediately at the closest feasible location or by notifying the owner of the wagon of the need for wheel replacement during the next maintenance stop.

As a unique feature, WILD, unlike other similar systems, measures each wheel in two full rounds ensuring thus a very precise and reliable monitoring. Unlike other systems, Scalex® WILD is also capable of measuring passing trains with lower speeds, starting from 10 km/h.

Moreover, Scalex Wild measures the weights of all passing traffic (wagon, axle and wheel masses) fully automatically, up to speeds of 250 km/h. The continuous and automatic detection of damaged bogies is possible using the lateral force measurement properties of Scalex Wild.

WILD system is easy to install: the whole system is assembled and tested at the Tamtron System’s premises, so at the installation site only part of old track is replaced for WILD installation.

Detection of damaged wheels as early as possible is crucial in accident prevention
